Fitbit users will have to say goodbye to syncing with the computer

To play music on your compatible Fitbit watch, you will soon have to go through a streaming application.

As 9to5Google explains in an article, it will soon no longer be possible to transfer music from a computer to a Fitbit fitness watch. On a support page of the brand, we can read: “On October 13, 2022, we’re removing the ability to sync your Fitbit device with the Fitbit Connect app on your computer.“Another support article even talks about the “deactivation” of this PC/Mac application. The transfer of local files (MP3) will therefore become impossible from this date.

Fitbit therefore invites users to download the dedicated application, available on both Android and iOS. Music-loving athletes are invited to download a compatible streaming application such as Deezer or Pandora to continue listening to music during exercise. A regrettable decision since owners of Fitbit watches will be forced to subscribe to a music streaming platform subscription (around €10 per month) in order, in particular, to have access to offline listening if they wish.

A restriction that should not last forever since we know since the announcement of the acquisition of Fitbit by Google in 2021 that its fitness watches will eventually run on Wear OS, the Google operating system. This operating system will allow them to access YouTube Music as well as Spotify, and even find the possibility of directly transferring their MP3s.

For now, it’s still possible to use, or even download, Fitbit’s desktop app and add new tunes to your watch. You just have to hurry to perfect your playlists before October 13th.
