Artist FKA Twigs is suing her ex-partner, actor Shia LaBeouf, for violence. In a column published in the New York Times, she recounts her ordeal.

The British singer and performer has launched legal proceedings against her ex-boyfriend, actor Shia LaBeouf, for numerous violence, both physical and psychological, suffered during the year 2019, revealed the New York Times this week. In an interview with the American daily, the 32-year-old artist described his one-year relationship with the Hollywood star as "worst thing (that she has) been through". "I want to raise awareness of the tactics used by abusive people to take control of you", she said.

FKA Twigs Was Afraid Not To Be Believed
According to the complaint filed by FKA Twigs, the facts date back to February 2019, when the artist couple was driving home from vacation in the desert. The actor of the saga transformers then allegedly assaulted the singer near a gas station as she tried to flee. "He was driving very recklessly, removing his seat belt and threatening to have an accident.", she clarified. At first, and still according to the New York Times, FKA Twigs did not go to the police for fear of damaging the career of her then-boyfriend. But not only. "I told myself that no one would ever believe me. I am not a conventional person. I am not only a woman, but also racialized."
For his part, Shia LeBeouf reacted in a letter sent to an American newspaper, stipulating that "many of these accusations are not true". He pursues : “I have no excuse for my alcoholism or my aggression. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a habit of hurting the people closest to me. I am ashamed of this story and sorry for those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say ".

Shia LaBeouf, an abusive spouse?
This is not the first time the Hollywood actor has been accused of violence, however. In 2015, a video showing him arguing with his then-girlfriend, Mia Goth, outside a hotel in Germany was posted on social media. The 22-year-old actress was seen the next day with one black eye, according to several witnesses.
