Flagship grading software DaVinci Resolve finally comes to iPad

Widely used in the professional sphere, DaVinci Resolve is a software used in particular for calibration work. After the announcement of the iPad M2, BlackMagic Design followed suit with Apple by revealing the arrival of DaVinci Resolve on the shelves of the Apple brand.

More than a port of the software, BlackMagic has worked to exploit all the resources offered by the iPads to optimize its software. Thus, DaVinci Resolve for iPad is able to use the MultiTouch as well as the Apple Pencil. Far from being a truncated version, DaVinci Resolve also provides access to the software’s Cut and Grade pages.

And for Apple Silicon chips

This new version of the calibration software comes with an optimization for Apple Silicon chips. The publisher thus promises “4x faster Ultra HD ProRes rendering on the new iPad Pro with the M2 chip”. HDR is also available on the 12.9” iPad Pro M1. To go further, editors and colorists can send the clean feed output to an external Apple Studio Display, Pro Display XDR or AirPlay compatible screen.

Complete, DaVinci Resolve for iPad delivers files that are fully compatible with the desktop versions of the software. Enough to start a calibration directly on the set, or on the move, and finish it on an editing station. BlackMagic Cloud is also there, allowing several people to collaborate on the same file.

Price and availability

Expected for the last quarter of 2022, DaVinci Resolve multiplies the possibilities of editing and calibration on the move. The software will thus be available on the Apple App Store in its free version.

Editors wishing to go further with their iPad can opt for DaVinci Resolve Studio, a paid version that adds a few features. On the other hand, we do not know if, in addition to the iPad Pro M1 and M2, all Apple tablets will be compatible.
