Flash sales – The Ultimate Ears Hyperboom “5-star” portable speaker at €319.99 (-14%)

Extreme power and powerful bass: that’s what the Hyperboom promises, the largest Bluetooth speaker ever designed by Ultimate Ears.

Behind its rough appearance, the Hyperboom is a much more subtle speaker than it seems. It not only offers deep bass and a very good size/power ratio, but also a well-balanced sound reproduction. This is a first choice model for those looking for a powerful, efficient speaker that is easy to use and easier to transport than a “party” speaker like the JBL PartyBox 300.

Although the Hyperboom is positioned as a pure Bluetooth speaker, the most tech-savvy might still regret the lack of Wi-Fi connectivity, which effectively blocks access to any connected functionality. We then advise them to turn to a smaller and logically less powerful connected speaker, such as the Sonos Move, the Libratone Zipp 2 or the Bose Portable Home Speaker.

Strong points

  • Beautiful restitution of stereophonic space…
  • Rich and balanced sound reproduction with particularly deep bass.
  • Very powerful speaker, good distortion management.
  • Neat and robust design.
  • Solid battery life (20 hours on average).
  • Simple and intuitive use, many additional features.

Weak points

  • …but biased in certain acoustic conditions (very dull room, outdoors).
  • Pronounced directivity, slight lack of detail, especially in the treble.
  • Unable to go back to the previous song.
  • No screw thread for mounting on a stand.

NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude the prices of stores whose the VAT policy is not clear (so-called “gray” stores, typically in the case of imports from China).

Alternatively

The SRS-XG300 produces a very clean copy and has everything you need to satisfy those looking for a solid speaker, both in terms of design and sound performance, extremely easy to use and complete. A few minor flaws tarnish the picture and prevent it from perfectly dominating the competition, notably its cousin XB43, which we will prefer for its absolutely unbeatable quality/size/price ratio… unless we feel an irrepressible need for sound power bully.
