Flat stomach after just ten days – and that in just five minutes a day? The “Japanese Towel Workout” is a hit online, but how well does it really work?

Almost immediately to the dream figure, practically without any effort – that sounds exactly like the workout that we would all like to do, right? This is exactly what a special abdominal training promises, which became a hit worldwide via the video platform TikTok: Anyone who does the “Japanese towel training” for five minutes a day apparently has a visibly flatter and more toned stomach ten days later – and without any effort. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

What is Miracle Training?

The origin of this exercise seems to be a book by the Japanese expert Dr. To be Toshiki Fukutsudzi, who specializes in the effects of reflexology. In the book he presents numerous exercises that are said to significantly improve posture, flexibility and general well-being. In his opinion, the biggest problem is a misalignment of the hip joint, which can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. So he came up with an exercise that stretches the back with a pad, such as a rolled towel, while also bringing the hips back into shape.

Six pack lying down?

Experienced fitness trainers will probably have rolled their eyes at the word “reflex zone massage” and at the latest when the miracle exercise is demonstrated they will be irritated and wonder why people believe in this dream figure abbreviation. Of course it would be nice if a cozy back stretch session burned fat and trained six-packs along the way, but unfortunately that only works in fairy tales (and on TikTok).

Sad but true

Without a change in diet and exercise, nothing will change in terms of stomach and figure – and that is probably exactly where the great success of towel training lies: Who wants to accept this hard truth when so many people are obviously convinced of a more pleasant alternative? And of course it doesn’t hurt to lie down comfortably to stretch your back once a day – and a new online trend is born. These exercises are much more helpful for a flat stomach – and the realization that a stomach is completely okay the way it is – regardless of whether you have a six-pack or not.
