A WestJet flight from Calgary to Toronto (Canada) was canceled Tuesday, September 8, following a dispute between a family and crew members over wearing the mask.

Clearly, wearing a mask that has become mandatory sometimes causes problems that we would never have had to deal with before. It was the bitter experience a Canadian family recently had to face on a flight from Calgary to Toronto. Safwan Choudhry, the father of the family of two (a 3-year-old girl and an 18-month-old baby), told Global News that the situation started to get out of hand when, after boarding, a flight attendant from the air came to tell them that the two little ones had to wear the mask. While their 3-year-old daughter agreed without complaint, the little baby started screaming.

Embarrassed, Safwan Choudhry's wife asked the crew for a few minutes to calm her baby down, but tensions escalated with the hostess, who threatened to contact the police. "She said: 'I am asking you for the last time because next time it will be the police who will come here and they will arrest you and you will leave with your child" https://www.aufeminin.com/ ", says the father.

The compulsory mask from 2 years old

What this family struggled to understand was that the mask is actually mandatory from the age of 2, and their 3-year-old daughter had done so. In this specific case, why contact the police? This story does not end there since, in view of the events, the company then decided to cancel the flight, which did not fail to cause the dissatisfaction of the other passengers. However, Safwan Choudhry claims to have received support from many of them.

In a statement, relayed by Global News, the spokesperson for the company, Lauren Stewart, assured that "Flight crews have access to the passenger manifest, which specifically indicates which passengers are under two years old." She adds that the company is aware of the difficulties that mask wear can represent for young children, but that if parents or guardians do not comply with this requirement, the policy must be enforced.
