Passengers who wanted to fly from New York to Mallorca with the airline United Airlines experienced a real nightmare.
First a technical defect, then the engine caused problems
Originally scheduled for June 29, 2023 at 7 p.m., the flight was postponed four times. A technical defect prevented the plane from taking off on the first attempt, which led to the evacuation of all passengers.
After a few hours, the travelers were finally on a United Airlines replacement plane. But here, too, sudden problems with the engines ruined another attempt to take off. Again, everyone had to get out and wait patiently.
Problems with the cargo hold, the plane doesn’t take off until five hours later
The airline was initially unclear to passengers about an alternative date for the flight. The fate of their luggage also remained unclear. Although the second attempted launch failed in the middle of the night, no hotel accommodations were offered to the travelers as compensation, like Markus Liebscher, a passenger who “Mallorca Newspaper” reported.
Finally, it was announced that the flight from New York to Mallorca was scheduled to take place the next day, June 30, at 7 p.m. But this third attempt also ended in failure due to problems with the cargo hold. After five more hours of waiting, a plane finally took off. Nevertheless, Liebscher is still without the requested compensation for his hotel bill: “Every attempt to claim expenses or damages from the airline has been in vain.”
