This Friday, September 16, many flights to be operated by Air France are canceled, strike of air traffic controllers obliges. The company has put a device online to guide its passengers.

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) has confirmed a social action by air traffic controllers throughout France, scheduled for Friday September 16, 2022. This strike will have a strong impact on the traffic of the Air France company, which has preventively reduced its theft program and detailed the measures put in place for its customers harmed by the event.

The DGCA has asked companies to reduce their flight schedule by 50% for Friday

Air France has already canceled 10% of its long-haul flights (for 90% of insured flights) and 55% of its short and medium-haul flights (for 45% of insured journeys). The company adds that last-minute delays and cancellations are obviously not to be excluded, which reinforces the discontent of passengers.

This decision is not taken spontaneously by the company, since it is the DGAC which has asked the airlines to reduce their flight schedule by 50%, and this, from all French airports. We therefore understand that the goal is to avoid as much chaos as possible at airports.

Air France customers affected by a flight cancellation will be informed of their situation by SMS and e-mail. The company specifies that it offers them a free deferral, a credit note or a refund if they simply decide not to travel anymore. But how does it work?

If you prefer the deferral to the refund, beware, the window is short

Air France, at the invitation of the DGAC, invites its passengers to postpone their trip to a later date. The company specifies that the postponement is free of charge, as long as you have a ticket for a trip on September 16, if it was issued before September 13. The postponement is valid for a trip until September 23 inclusive, which does not offer a great deal of latitude to passengers.

If you are concerned and would rather like to have your ticket reimbursed due to a canceled flight, it is quite possible to obtain it by simply presenting it to the point of sale, if you bought it in a store, or then from the “Refund” section, if you purchased it on the Air France website.

In any case, and even if you do not receive an e-mail or SMS notification from Air France, we advise you, if you are traveling this Friday, to follow the real-time information of your flight, from airfrance.com and its “Information” section, then “Flight schedules and statuses”.
