- Posters have delivered a million parcels to the residential addresses of Mr and Mrs Swiss every day since the end of November.
- In total, it delivered a good 23.4 million parcels, as reported by the Swiss Post.
- That is 1.2 percent more than in the same period last year. Compared to 2019, it was even an increase of 30 percent.
The daily record for the year was reached on December 14: On that day, the Post distributed 1.2 million parcels to Swiss households. While the parcels keep increasing, there is a downward trend in letters.
Last year around 15 million letters were distributed each day. This year, since Black Friday on November 26th, the Post has been delivering around 14 million letters, newspapers and advertising mail a day, according to the Post.
Extra shifts and additional staff
The Post had “been preparing for this intensive period for months”. For example, 730 more permanent employees would work in the Post’s logistics operations today than they did a year ago. According to the announcement, there are also around 200 additional temporary employees who have been on duty since the beginning of November.
In order to process the masses of parcels in good time, the employees in the sorting centers worked special shifts – even on Saturdays. The machines and conveyor belts in the sorting centers were only idle for two to three hours a day for maintenance.

Thanks to all these measures, Swiss Post was able to sort 200,000 more parcels a day than last year. When it came to deliveries, Swiss Post employees drove more than 700 additional delivery tours every day.
The Post rented an additional 300 delivery vans for this purpose. Unlike in Lockdown 2020, there was not a single day in these intense weeks when logistics reached its limits, it was said.
