Flood operation – 150 helpers and soldiers clean up the industrial area

The flooding in the Pinzgau is retreating more and more, the clean-up work is now in full swing – as in the Mittersill industrial area. In the meantime, the extent of the damage to the Pinzgauer local railway is clear: The state is talking about ten million euros.

“Small problems keep cropping up, but we can manage everything,” reports Wolfgang Viertler, Mayor of Mittersill, when asked by “Krone”. The industrial park there was waist-deep under water for three days. Thanks to the efforts of the fire brigade, a number of helpers and those affected, the area is now largely dry – the clean-up work is in full swing. “75 soldiers of the armed forces are on site to provide support,” explains army spokesman Rene Auer. In total, Viertler estimates the number of helpers there at 150. There is still one concern: “The reservoir is still relatively full. In the case of bad weather, the retention areas would not be sufficient, ”says the city chief.

Meanwhile, the state assessed the extent of damage to the Pinzgauer local railway: As reported, the railway line was badly damaged by the flood. There is now talk of ten million euros in damage. The positive: The train is now running again from Zell am See to Niedernsill.
