Flop at the cinema, this SF novel deemed unsuitable will soon be a series!

Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Club) is already working on a new series. He will adapt a novel by Stephen King, which has already been transposed to the cinema without success.

After ceasing his collaboration with Netflix, Mike Flanagan is already working on a new series project. The screenwriter and director, to whom The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor or Midnight Sermons owe him, left the platform following the cancellation of his last production, Midnight Club, after a single and unique season.

The contract between Mike Flanagan and Netflix was coming to an end and it seemed like the right time for the creator to move on to other horizons. And it didn’t take him long to find a new home for his next projects.

Mike Flanagan has indeed signed a multi-year contract with Amazon Prime Video to develop new original series through his production house Intrepid Pictures with his partner Trevor Macy.

A new adaptation of Stephen King

Before embarking on his projects for Amazon, Mike Flanagan had started working on a series based on The Dark Tower, a famously unsuitable series of novels by Stephen King. He is likely to submit this program to Prime Video, but he can still submit it to other platforms and channels.

Anyway, he tackles a new work by Stephen King, after Jessie and Doctor Sleep. But above all he tackles a difficult universe which has already been adapted to the cinema by Nikolaj Arcel.

But the film The Dark Tower, released in 2017 and worn by Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey and Katheryn Winnick, was a critical and commercial failure. This antecedent does not scare Mike Flanagan who sees this series The Dark Tower as his “holy grail”, as he explained to Deadline:

“We consider this project to be a series that lasts at least five seasons. And having lived with this project for so long, I have a lot of ideas in my head. But I have a script for the pilot that I love and a very detailed for the first season and a larger plan for subsequent seasons.”

In the meantime, a final series by Mike Flanagan is expected on Netflix: The Fall of the Usher House, an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s short story. This series tells how Lord Roderick Usher, worried about his ailing companion, welcomes a childhood friend into his strange and oppressive atmosphere, after calling him for help.
