Florent Pagny: the real story behind his first hit which harmed his brother Frédéric

It was in the documentary “Florent Pagny, a free man” broadcast on TF1 on January 1, 2023 that the truth was finally restored concerning the singer’s first hit which harmed his brother Frédéric.

“Anything” caused a stir. Indeed, when it was released in stores in 1987, the piece by Florent Pagny caused harm to his brother Frédéric without him actually being concerned. It is the clip of the title, in which we can see the young man, which caused confusion as to the destination of the message. While Florent Pagny evokes a drug addiction, the shortcut with his brother Frédéric was therefore quickly made. Was Frédéric Pagny thus a drug addict? In 2020, the latter was finally out of the silence to put an end to years of rumor. “We said anything about this story, it’s the case to say it! (…) Once and for all: I’ve never taken drugs!” he had declared in front of the journalist Eric Le Bourhis.

But then, who was talking about Florent Pagny in his song “Anything”? And of his friend Riton Liebman, of whom he was very close. In the documentary “Florent Pagny, a free man” broadcast on TF1 on January 1, 2023, he also spoke on this subject, explaining: “I recognize myself because it’s true, at the time I was getting high. I think it hurt him to see his friend stoned, it was not funny to see (…) I took a nose dive. From that I was taking the cam, everyone was looking at me, people didn’t like it. They could tell me ‘Stop’, I said yes but I couldn’t do it”. Even Patrick Bruel, a longtime friend with the father of the family, was affected by this situation. “I know who it is for and where this song comes from” he also confided in the documentary. Despite the controversy, this song will have allowed the singer to climb the slope after a dark period and to restore his image with the French public.
