After leaving Formula 1, Florian König already has a new moderation job up his sleeve. He replaces Thomas Helmer at "Doppelpass".

The soccer talk show "Doppelpass" on Sport1 knows its new host. Florian König (53) will succeed Thomas Helmer (55) from next season. The broadcaster officially announced this on Thursday. Helmer will keep the format for the European Football Championship, and König will take over from the Bundesliga season 2021/22.

The 53-year-old will say goodbye to Formula 1 together with his current employer RTL on Sunday (December 13th). He has been working for the private broadcaster since 1994, and now a new challenge awaits him with "Doppelpass". According to his own statement, he did not have to think about the job offer for long. "After all, I've always enjoyed being on the show as a guest." It fills him with pride "from 2021 to stand in a row with Rudi Brückner, Jörg Wontorra and Thomas Helmer". Brückner (65) moderated the format from 1995 to 2004, Wontorra (72) from 2004 to 2015.

Helmer has held the post of host since 2015. It was "a great pleasure and honor" for him to be able to accompany the program for so many years. "I would have liked to have continued, but in the future I would like to have more time for possible new topics and projects," he says. Talks about possible future moderation activities at the station have already started.
