Florida revokes special status for Disney, company deemed too progressive

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law Monday, February 27, a law removing the special status Disney had in his state, the latest episode in his offensive against a supposed woke culture.

“Today, the lucrative business of the enchanted kingdom is finally coming to an end”, launched the Republican, who accuses the entertainment giant of indoctrinating children on LGBT + issues, during a press conference. Disney benefited since the 1960s and the construction in the city of Orlando of the Disney World amusement park from a special status which offered it a large autonomy and exempted it from most state regulations.

But relations between the Enchanted Kingdom and Mr DeSantis soured when Bob Chapek, the ex-chief executive of Disney, spoke out publicly against a law promoted by the governor which restricted teaching in elementary school topics related to sexual orientation.

“Disney spoke out against something that was only meant to protect young children”denounced Ron DeSantis on Monday, accusing the company of trying to impose a “ideology”. This amusement park near Orlando is among the most visited in the world and the Disney brand remains one of the favorites of Americans.

Rising star of the hard right flirting very openly with the idea of ​​a candidacy for the American presidential election of 2024, Ron DeSantis willingly poses as a destroyer of wokism. Clearly, the forty-year-old accuses a group of“elites” to impose its progressive ideology on a society which refuses it, and is committed to opposing it in its state.
