Flown into hospital – East Tyroleans trapped under a skidoo and injured

Fatal accident on Thursday afternoon in Prägraten in East Tyrol. An 89-year-old crashed a skidoo over an embankment, was trapped by the vehicle and had to be flown to the hospital in Lienz with serious injuries.

The local was driving the skidoo from the “Bodenalm” car park into the valley on a forest path on Thursday at around 4.20 p.m. when he noticed a fallen tree on the snow-covered path. The 89-year-old wanted to drive past it, but an accident occurred. “The man came off the forest road at an altitude of around 1730 meters and was catapulted almost three meters over a steep embankment by the skidoo,” the police said. As a result, the skidoo also fell over the embankment and trapped the man in the head and chest area under him. Two ski tourers who happened to pass by immediately after the accident were able to lift the vehicle so that the victim could free himself. He was seriously injured and flown to the district hospital in Lienz in an emergency doctor’s helicopter. “There was no obvious damage to the Skidoo,” explains the executive.
