Flown to hospital – skier (12) seriously injured his head in a fall

A 12-year-old boy seriously injured his head in a skiing accident in the Zillertal Hochfügen on Thursday. The member of a German school group had previously fallen over the edge of the piste.

The group of students from Germany was on the black slope number 6 in the Hochfügen ski area around midday on Thursday when the serious accident occurred. The 12-year-old German fell at the bottom of the piste through his own fault and went over the edge of the piste. A doctor who happened to be present provided first aid. The student sustained serious head injuries, even though he was wearing a ski helmet. His teacher started the rescue chain. A doctor who happened to witness the accident as a skier gave the injured person first aid until the piste rescue team and the emergency doctor arrived. The injured person was then flown by helicopter to the Innsbruck clinic.
