A secret button makes flying more convenient
What few people know: Passengers can create more space themselves. Specifically, this is about the armrest in the aisle seat. Because it is movable. There is a “secret” button near the joint. If you press this, the armrest can be adjusted or even folded all the way up.
Why can the armrest be raised?
By adjusting the armrest you also have the opportunity to stand up better. The button was actually introduced for people with physical disabilities. The button for folding up the armrest in the aisle seat is also intended for people who are very overweight. Cleaning the aircraft is also much easier for the crew if the arm flap can be folded up.
In this case you should not raise the armrest
If you can fold up the armrest in the aisle, you get more space. But you shouldn’t always use this trick. There is a specific reason for this: the armrest separates it from the aisle and the dimensions are adapted to the service trolleys, among other things.
That’s why you should only use the hack once the crew has left with the service car – this way they won’t be hindered in their work.
