The Fnac-Darty group has reportedly put aside its plans to take over the e-commerce specialist Cdiscount.

It was one of the major operations expected in 2023. The online seller Cdiscount was going to change hands to fall into the hands of the Fnac-Darty group, thanks to the presence of Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky in the capital of Fnac, but also Casino, the owner of Cdiscount. Unfortunately, the buyout operation, which was akin to a rescue, would seriously suffer!

Cdiscount in full collapse

Could Cdiscount, the “French Amazon”, benefit from the help of a national company in the form of Fnac-Darty? Well no, if we are to believe the information from BFM TV. “ Cdiscount is suffering enormously and Fnac Darty no longer has any interest in marrying them » explains one of their sources.

It must be said that the picture of the company drawn up by this same person looks like a field of ruin. “ They no longer have stocks, no more sales and it no longer makes industrial sense to bring us together » she says. Not enough to make you want to launch an acquisition operation.

Daniel Kretinsky, the last hope?

However, one factor seemed to push towards the success of this idea: the billionaire Daniel Kretinsky. The latter is in fact the largest shareholder of Fnac-Darty, with 25% of the shares, while at the same time it completes the purchase of Casino, of which Cdiscount is a subsidiary. And despite the negative situation, he would not have a definitive opinion on the matter.

He has not yet seriously considered the subject. » declares one of his relatives interviewed by BFM TV, arguing that he will not take possession of Casino until next March. However, with turnover down 25% during the third quarter, and sales collapsing by 35%, Cdiscount today does not really have anything to arouse envy.
