Following an IVF error, this couple abandons their baby just after birth

After resorting to surrogacy, an American couple decided to abandon the child just after birth.

This American couple had been trying to conceive a baby for many years. But after many successive miscarriages, a lot of tears and endured suffering, they decided to seek a surrogate mother. The latter became pregnant after in vitro fertilization (IVF) carried out with their respective reproductive cells. The pregnancy went wonderfully and the future parents have built a relationship of trust with their surrogate mother.

Unfortunately things did not go as planned then, explained the man whose identity is not known on Reddit, in a post spotted by Cafemom. At birth, discovering the child, it is stupor: “I knew something was wrong”says the man.

An error during in vitro fertilization

According to the description in his post, the baby had Asian features, black hair and brown eyeswhile he and his wife are both “white, blond and with blue eyes”. A real misunderstanding for the couple who wanted to be biologically linked to their child. They then decided to carry out a DNA test, which revealed that the man is not the biological father of the child. An investigation was immediately launched, showing that the agency as well as the sperm bank had made a mistake at the time of the in vitro fertilization.

“We don’t care about ethnicity, we’re just upset that the baby isn’t ours, if he was white and not me we would have been just as angry. The surrogate was also heartbroken when we told her what happened, but can’t afford to keep the baby as she already has five children.”explains the father.

An unfair decision for the child

Anger and disappointment are great for the couple, who then decided not to keep the baby and to entrust him to adoption. A decision deemed unfair by Internet users.

“I know it’s a lot to ask, but can’t you really find a place in your heart for this child? He still blessed you and your wife and need to be loved like any other babye”explains one of them.

“The baby is biologically related to your wife. If you use biology to justify the fact that you are morally entitled to abandon the baby, the woman would immorally abandon her childeven you don’t consider it yours”adds another.

The man, however, did not change his mind. He and his wife, legal guardians of the baby, have contacted an adoption agency to find him a loving home.

A story similar to the Gammy case in 2014

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a story like this has made the rounds in the media. In December 2013, as part of a surrogacy, a 21-year-old surrogate mother gave birth to twins for an Australian couple. If the little girl was doing well, the little boy, Gammy, had trisomy 21 and heart problems. Upon their arrival in Bangkok, the couple then chose torelinquish infant to thai surrogate motherand to take only her twin sister in good health.

For several years, surrogacy (GPA) is developing considerably in some countries such as Denmark, the Netherlands, Russia, Greece, Canada or even certain American states. Having recourse to a surrogate mother is an opportunity for many couples, who cannot have children, to become parents. But there can be deviations as these terrible stories show us. In France, this practice is still prohibited.
