Following PS5 price hike, Microsoft says Xbox Series price won’t budge

We may be in the middle of Gamescomthe announcement that caused the most reaction this week was that of the rise in the price of the PlayStation 5. A decision that surprised everyone, despite the inflation that affects many sectors. The least we can say is that consumers took the news badly, and are now worried that some industry players will follow suit. As Microsoft for example, which could very well follow the model of sony. But for now, the American manufacturer will not take this path.

No increase for Xbox

If you were worried about seeing the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S take a few extra dollars, don’t worry. The PS5 has increased its price by 10%, but Microsoft obviously does not want to follow suit, at least for now.

Windows Central contacted the manufacturer to learn more about its position on market price increases, and Microsoft answered these questions:

We are constantly evaluating our industry to provide our fans with great options to play. Our suggested retail price for Xbox Series S remains at $299 (£250, €300) Xbox Series X is $499 (£450, €500). »

Inevitably, Microsoft has a shot to play here. The manufacturer is used to selling consoles at a loss, and its Xbox Series S is much cheaper to produce, while being very popular. The results of the two manufacturers at the end of the year will undoubtedly be very interesting to analyze.
