After several postponements, the sale of Olympique Lyonnais was formalized today. The Rhone club officially goes under the American flag. John Textor becomes the main shareholder, he who wants to help the French team to grow.

Olympique Lyonnais had been waiting for this moment for six months now. The American holding company Eagle Football Holding managed by the multi-millionaire John Textor became Monday the majority shareholder of OL Groupe, which includes the football club Olympique Lyonnais, announced a press release from OL Groupe.

“The completion of the transactions with Eagle Football has now taken place,” said the press release published after the close of the Paris stock exchange, after six months of negotiations punctuated by several postponements.

Nearly 40 million shares

“Eagle Football, controlled by John Textor, today acquired from the main historical shareholders of OL Groupe (Pathé, IDG Capital and Holnest – hereinafter the “Vendors”) 39,201,514 OL Groupe shares at a price of €3 per share and 789,824 OL Groupe OSRANEs at a price of €265.57 per OSRANE,” the statement read.

An operation that can be good for OL but also for its finances. Olympique Lyonnais currently occupies 8th place in the Ligue 1 standings with only six wins in fifteen games. Lyon’s next match is scheduled for Wednesday, December 28 in Brest.
