UEFA on Wednesday opened disciplinary proceedings against Olympique de Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt, after the multiple incidents that occurred during the defeat of the Marseillais on Tuesday in the Champions League against the German club (1-0).
The two clubs will have to answer for “projectile throwing” and “ignition of smoke bombs”, charges to which are added in particular the use of lasers and the “trouble” caused by the supporters for the Marseillais, as well as “degradation” and “racist behavior” on the Frankfurt side.
Nazi salutes from German supporters
“UEFA’s disciplinary bodies will decide in due course,” said the European organisation, which opened a similar procedure last week after the clashes between supporters during Nice-Cologne in the Europa Conference League. Tuesday evening in Marseille, a German supporter was injured by a smoke bomb fire in the stands and 17 people arrested on the sidelines of the meeting, according to the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture.
In addition, inside the stadium, “German supporters gave Nazi salutes in the visitors’ stand”, indicated the police headquarters, adding that a report had been made to UEFA.

“Such behavior clearly goes beyond the understandable: beyond being dangerous, they tarnish the image of the club, its supporters and the unique atmosphere that characterizes our stadium”, continues the club. OM “reaffirms its commitment to work with the public authorities to identify these individuals” and “to ensure that such incidents are definitively banned from our stadium”, concludes the Marseille team.
