Albart prevailed against three other proposals with 32 percent of the votes

Users of the uefa.com website and schoolchildren across Europe voted. Albart received the most votes with 32 percent. The other suggestions were Bärnardo, Bärnheart and Herzi von Bär. The teddy bear follows in the footsteps of the previous mascots Berni, Goaliath, Rabbit and Kinas.

“The mascot pays tribute to the popular teddy bear, which is believed to have been born in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century,” said Uefa. The bear was presented for the first time before the start of the friendly match between Germany and Colombia on June 20 in Gelsenkirchen. So now he finally has a name. “We hope that with our mascot we have created a funny and lovable character that teaches children how to play football,” stressed EURO tournament director Philipp Lahm (39).
