PARIS, May 21 (Reuters) – Kylian Mbappé will stay at Paris-Saint-Germain and will not join Real Madrid, L’Equipe and RMC reported on Saturday, without citing their sources.

The 23-year-old striker, world champion with the France team in 2018, has given his agreement in principle to the leaders of the Parisian club to extend his contract which expires in June, according to L’Equipe.

This contract is not yet officially signed but it should cover three additional years, specifies the newspaper.

PSG, contacted by Reuters, declined to comment on the claims.

Kylian Mbappé is top scorer and best passer in Ligue 1 before the last day to be played this Saturday. All competitions combined, he has so far scored 36 goals and made 26 assists with the Parisian club, already assured of the title of champion of France, this season.

Revealed in Monaco, the native of Bondy, in Seine-Saint-Denis, joined PSG in 2017 for an estimated amount of 180 million euros, the second most expensive transfer in the history of football behind that of the Brazilian Neymar, also arrived at PSG that same year from Barcelona for 222 million euros.

The Parisian club rejected an offer from Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappé last year, at the risk of losing their striker without any compensation at the end of the current season, when his contract expires.

According to the media, the Madrid club had then offered up to 200 million euros to recruit the French striker.

Paris-Saint-Germain had refused to part with Kylian Mbappé in the hope of winning the Champions League for the first time, from which he was finally eliminated in the round of 16 by Real Madrid.

Holder in the France team from the age of 18, Kylian Mbappé was world champion with the Blues in 2018 at the end of a competition of which he had been the revelation. (Written by Bertrand Boucey, with Julien Prétot)
