Football League of Nations: Portugal remains in the lead, Spain revives

Portugal beat the Czech Republic 2-0 and consolidated their lead at the top of Group B thanks to a great Bernardo Silva, author of two assists, Thursday in Lisbon for the third day of the League of Nations.

Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo opened the scoring with a powerful dry shot (1-0, 33′) before Valencia winger Gonçalo Guedes made the break shortly after by crossing his shot (2- 0.38e).

Back from the locker room, the Portuguese managed their advantage by setting a low pace to the game.

At the end of this third day, Portugal increased their lead at the top of Group B with 7 points.

Spain ensures the union minimum in Switzerland

Spain moved into second place after beating Switzerland 1-0 in the evening and have 5 points.

After their two inaugural draws against Portugal (1-1) and the Czech Republic (2-2), Luis Enrique’s men opened the scoring in the 13th minute thanks to a goal from Pablo Sarabia, who cut off a pass from Marcos Llorente in front of the Swiss goal. His first goal since his double against Iceland in a friendly in March (5-0).

After experimenting in the first two matches, Luis Enrique lined up his standard team against Switzerland. Alvaro Morata regained his position as center forward and he was one breath away from doubling the mark for La Roja, lonely in the box in the 70th minute.

Finally, in the 86th minute, a hazardous outing by Unai Simon did not benefit the Swiss: after the shock of the Spanish goalkeeper against Haris Seferovic, Breel Embolo failed to frame his shot to equalize.
