Football Mondial-2022: Ukraine dismisses Scotland to spin in the final of the play-offs against Wales

Ukraine qualified for the 2022 World Cup qualifying play-off final by beating Scotland (3-1) on Wednesday in Glasgow.

Largely dominating, the Ukrainians took the lead through Yarmolenko (33rd) and Yaremchuk (49th), and sealed the fate of the match in added time by Dovbyk. Scotland had pulled one back ten minutes from time through McGregor.

In a particular context, the players nevertheless had their heads in the field while their opponents seemed paralyzed by the challenge.

Scotland too clumsy

The Scots ended up rebelling after half-time, but too clumsily. John McGinn inexplicably missed the target on a header from 6 meters, before seeing his recovery countered, after a first strike from Che Adams repelled by Georgi Bushchan (76th). The same Bushchan was not free from reproach by having a not very firm hand on a strike from Conor McGregor which for a time revived the hopes of the Scots (1-2, 79th).

This victory brings a small breath of hope to his country at war and the Ukrainians are only 90 minutes, or more if extra time, from a World Cup, since the Ukrainians will face Wales on Sunday for a ticket to Qatar.

On the Scottish side, they will see their wait extended by four years since their last World Cup in 1998.
