A 67-year-old Briton was going to flower the grave of her father for 43 years without thinking for a single second that another man was in this vault.
43 years to bloom the bad grave. Every Christmas, birthday and Father’s Day, Sylvia Ross traveled to Witton Park Cemetery in Bishop Auckland, England, to lay flowers on the grave of her father, John Thomas Thompson, reports the DailyMail. But one day the 67-year-old grandmother was challenged by a post on the town hall’s Facebook account. The message explained thata plaque had been inadvertently placed on a wrong grave at the cemetery of this city located in the county of Durham. The municipality added that the stele had therefore been moved and put it back in the right place.

Worried to death, Sylvia Ross went straight to the cemetery. It was there that she noticed that the grave concerned by this gross error was neither more nor less than that of his own father. An investigation was carried out by the town hall in an attempt to shed light on the circumstances of this funeral micmac. John Thomas Thompson, who died at the age of 51 from heart disease, actually lay in an unmarked grave a few yards away.
Sylvia Ross and her sister Lynette were devastated when they learned that the vault on which they had come to meditate for so many years housed the coffin of another deceased, a certain Frederick Brown, who died the same year. “We are disgusted, and my mother is heartbroken”, Lynette Ross told local media. Durham County Council Funeral Director Graham Harrison was keen to present his deepest apologies to the family by John Thomas Thompson:We are sorry for the distress this error has caused the family. As soon as we were informed of this unprecedented error, we carefully moved the items to the correct grave as soon as possible. Although the grave has now been corrected, this does not lessen the pain of the family, and we would like to reiterate our most sincere apologies for any damage caused.”
