Ensure affordable housing
In order to counteract this form of savings, City Councilor for Housing Kathrin Gaál and City Councilor for Finance Peter Hanke (both SPÖ) wrote a letter to the responsible ministries (Justice, Economics, Finance & Social Affairs). Specifically, it is about strengthening the housing stock, i.e. ensuring affordable housing. But in order to get the frozen situation moving, a vacancy tax is inevitable. This tax would have to be so high that renting it would be more attractive.
