For All Mankind: the Apple series renewed for season 5, a Russian spin-off announced


For All Mankind, the space series from Apple TV+, still has its head in the stars. This show created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi has been renewed for a fifth season by Apple’s streaming platform. His universe will even expand in a spin-off, Star Citywhich will have Wolpert and Nedivi as showrunners.

On the other side of the Iron Curtain

For All Mankind has told, since its first season released in 2019, an alternative version of the space conquest where the Soviets were the first to set foot on the Moon in the 1960s. In this uchrony, the space race was not therefore never stopped and the space program continues to develop.

Each season then tackles a different decade. The fourth season ended last January on Apple TV+, while the astronauts are now camped on Mars in the mid-2000s. As the success was once again there, the streaming platform seems not to have hesitated to prolong the adventure.

And since the competition between NASA astronauts and Soviet cosmonauts has always been at the heart of For All Mankindit’s no surprise to see the series extend beyond the Iron Curtain with Star City. Described as a “paranoid thriller”this spin-off series will look back at the key moment in the uchronistic history of the space race: when the Soviet Union became the first nation to land on the Moon.

Like the original series, Star City will tell “the lives of the cosmonauts, engineers and intelligence officers of the Soviet space program and will explore the risks each of them took to propel humanity into a new era.”

“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown over the seasons of For All Mankind,” said executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi. “The more we learned about this secret city located in the forests around Moscow, where Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked, the more we wanted to tell this story from the other side of the space race. We are very excited to the idea of ​​continuing to develop the alternative narrative universe of For All Mankind alongside our partners Apple and Sony.

As For All Mankind, Star City will in fact be produced by Sony Pictures Television for Apple TV+. No release date has been announced yet, but The Digitals will obviously keep you informed.
