But also simple to make and finally, ultra-trendy … These small pastries from Japan come in the form of pretty balls with an ultra-soft texture. Try this easy chestnut mochi recipe to combine the originality of Japanese cake with the Western tradition of year-end chestnut recipes.

The best chestnut mochis recipe, perfect for Christmas dessert

To make a dozen mochis, you will need:

  • 100 g glutinous rice flour
  • 50 g of sugar
  • Cornstarch
  • 200 ml of water
  • Chestnut cream

The steps of the mochis recipe:

  • Combine the glutinous rice flour and sugar in a microwave-safe container (this is very important because you are going to have to use it later).
  • Mix gently while adding water until you get a smooth paste.
  • Cover the container with taut plastic wrap.
  • Place it in the microwave for 1 minute 30 minutes.
  • Remove the bowl and lift the plastic wrap slightly to release the steam (be careful, the bowl is very hot).
  • Replace the film tightly and put the 1m30 bowl back in the microwave.
  • Remove the plastic wrap from the bowl: the dough is slightly translucent and sticky.
  • Sprinkle cornflour on your worktop to prevent the dough from sticking too much, then place the dough in the middle, covering it too with cornstarch (it will be easier to work with). Your dough is ready! Then, make small balls of chestnut cream using two teaspoons and arrange them on a plate.
  • Cut out a small ball of dough and gently flatten it with your fingers, then garnish it with a small ball of chestnut cream.
  • Then close by pinching the edges of the dough then form a nice ball again once the filling is in place, by gently rolling the mochi between the palms of your hands.

Repeat the operation until all the dough is gone and enjoy this trendy Christmas dessert!
