For Disney+ series: MCU superhero will be completely changed

Marvel fans can only rejoice at the sheer volume of new content. The series “Moon Knight” has already started on Disney+ this year and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has been in German cinemas since May 4th. The next MCU chapter will then appear again on Disney +, because on June 8th the series “Ms. Marvel” will start, which will introduce the new superheroine of the same name, who will probably join the Avengers in the future.

But the first trailer for the series irritated comic readers, because it shows – Ms. Marvel’s superpowers look very different than what is known from the comics. In fact, Marvel seems to have completely changed the character for the series. The fans are surprised on the net. Even Marvel boss Kevin Feige has now commented on this and explained what the change is all about.

Change in “Ms. Marvel”: This is how the MCU boss explains the situation

Kamala Khan becomes a new Avengers member! The character is known as “Ms. Marvel” – because she is a big fan of Captain Marvel.

Marvel Studios

Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani in the series) is a member of the Inhuman in the comics and has very memorable superpowers: She can enlarge and lengthen her limbs at will, just like the superhero Mr. Fantastic aka Reed Richards, whom film fans know from the “Fantastic Four” series. However, in the series, she instead has the ability to summon violet-colored energy and arguably shoot it in bulk. Her powers are now reminiscent of Avengers member Captain Marvel from the film of the same name.

Speaking to Empire, Kevin Feige commented, “We’re filming the comics, but it’s not an exact translation. Kamala came into comic book continuity at a very specific time. She’s coming into the MCU at a very specific time now -Continuity. And those two things don’t go together.” Exactly how Kamala got her superpowers becomes an important element of the series. “She wants to find out: ‘Am I Asgardian? Have I been hit by gamma rays?” But it’s none of that. Her powers are tied to her own past and lineage.”

Following her series, Ms. Marvel is set to appear in the 2023 movie “The Marvels” alongside Captain Marvel aka Brie Larson and Monica Rambeau aka Teyonah Parris. All three characters now have nearly identical powers due to the MCU changes to Ms. Marvel. So is the change related to that? Fans will have to find out on Disney+.
