LFrance’s nuclear posture is not about to change. Among the ten priorities defined by the new National Strategic Review published on Wednesday, the objective of a “robust and credible nuclear deterrent” occupies the first place, “obviously”, specified Emmanuel Macron in his speech on the helicopter carrier Diksmuide, in Toulon (Var). He insisted on the continuity of this strategy, heir to a national effort initiated at the end of the Second World War and operational since 1964, describing deterrence as “the backbone of our security, credible, modern, dimensioned within the framework of a strict sufficiency. It will continue to be based on simple and clear principles, which guarantee our freedom of action and ensure that we will be protected from aggression.
