For openings in summer
Spahn sets 20 incidence as a new target

Health Minister Spahn is confident about the Corona easing in the summer. Open-air concerts and football games with fans in the stadium should then be possible. The prerequisite for this: The seven-day incidence must fall below 20.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn has set an incidence of below 20 as a target so that there can be far-reaching easing of the corona rules in the summer. For a carefree summer, the incidence must be further reduced, said the CDU politician of the “Bild” newspaper. “Last summer it was below 20. We should aim for that again. Caution and caution still apply.”

On today’s Sunday, the seven-day incidence – i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days – according to the Robert Koch Institute nationwide was 64.5 (previous day: 66.8; previous week: 83.1). We learned from last summer, said the minister. “At that time, the trips abroad, often visits to relatives in Turkey and the Balkans, caused around 50 percent of the new infections in phases. We have to prevent that this year,” said Spahn.

For example, he wants to conclude agreements with Turkey about tests on entry and exit at an early stage. “In this last phase of the pandemic, the following applies to foreign travelers: test and be vigilant. Anything else jeopardizes our success,” continued Spahn.

At open-air concerts, the minister is confident. “Concerts in the not fully occupied Olympic Stadium or in the park with tests and distance are possible from today’s perspective,” said Spahn. “But no rock festivals where tens of thousands are in each other’s arms.” Spahn not only gives hope to music fans, but also to football fans: “The league has developed a good protection concept. If the incidence continues to fall, I am sure that fans will be able to return to the stadium in August.”

In order to enable regular lessons again after the summer vacation, Spahn relies on vaccinating children and adolescents. For this he would like to reserve Biontech vaccination doses especially for schoolchildren. The vaccine is currently being tested by European authorities for use in 12 to 16 year olds, and approval is expected soon. “The stated goal is for the federal states to offer underage schoolchildren a vaccination offer by the end of August,” said Spahn.
