The Cannes Film Festival will end on Saturday evening (25 May). The jury chaired by Greta Gerwig (40) will announce the Golden Palm for the best film at the closing ceremony, and director and “Star Wars” creator George Lucas (80) will receive the Palm of Honor for his life’s work. For two weeks, the Croisette was once again the focus of the big stars. There were many glamorous appearances, but also touching moments, such as the US magazine “People” reported.

The stars showed emotions

The festival already had an emotional start: Juliette Binoche (60) could not hold back her tears when she presented Meryl Streep (74) with the Palm of Honor for her lifetime achievement at the opening ceremony. The honoree tried to comfort her colleague by putting her hand on her shoulder, but to no avail. The moment was nevertheless a joyful one for the Oscar winner, who joked the next morning: “At home I am not respected, so it is incredible to come to this arena and experience this huge tidal wave.”

Even the otherwise cool Kevin Costner (69) could not contain his emotions during his Cannes appearance. The actor and director tried to keep his composure while the audience celebrated his western film “Horizon: An American Saga” with an eleven-minute standing ovation. Costner wiped away his tears in the cinema and said: “I will never forget this.” The day was also unforgettable for him because five of his seven children accompanied him.

Cher turned back time

The amfAR gala during the film festival is always a glamorous affair – and this year it was unusually loud. Demi Moore (61) reprimanded the audience when she announced Cher (78) as the headliner of the evening. “She’s won a Grammy, an Oscar, an Emmy. Do you have an Emmy back there in the room? I don’t believe it,” she complained. When Cher then appeared, everyone fell silent: The pop icon was wearing a skin-tight, see-through suit that was reminiscent of her legendary outfit from 1989 in her music video for “If I Could Turn Back Time.”

Hot couple performances

The red carpets in Cannes always offer a good opportunity to show your happiness in love to the whole world. Matthias Schweighöfer (43) and Ruby O. Fee (28) formed an elegant duo at the opening of the 77th film festival on the Côte d’Azur. At the premiere of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”, Chris Hemsworth (40) and Elsa Pataky (47) couldn’t take their eyes off each other. Richard Gere (74) also made Cannes a family affair and made a rare appearance with his wife Alejandra Silva (41) before the world premiere of “Oh, Canada”. His son Homer James Jigme Gere (24) was also present at the after-party after the acclaimed premiere.

Sienna Miller (42) also came with her partner Oli Green (27). But the real eye-catcher was her daughter Marlowe (11), whom she took with her on the red carpet for the first time.

Shocking movie moment

In addition to a lot of glamour, the festival always ensures that there are at least a few unpleasant moments. Most of the shocking moments came from director Ali Abbasi’s (43) “The Apprentice”, a fictionalized story about the young Donald Trump with Sebastian Stan (41) and Maria Bakalova (27) in the roles of Trump and his first wife Ivana.

The film shows Trump sexually harassing his wife after telling her he is no longer attracted to her, and Ivana retorts that maybe her orange-haired, balding husband should look in the mirror. Audiences reacted with shock to the disturbing scene – as well as to the depiction of Trump undergoing liposuction and scalp reduction surgery. The Trump campaign immediately labeled the film “garbage” and announced it would sue “to disprove the patently false claims made by these wannabe filmmakers.”

These performances provided food for thought

Kelly Rowland (43) also caused a stir when she had a dispute with a security guard on the stairs to the Lumière Theater. The scene went viral on May 21. At the premiere of “Marcello Mio,” the former “Destiny’s Child” actress was just walking up the steps when the woman tried to guide her. The two got into an argument that was captured on video. “The woman knows what happened. I know what happened,” the singer said later. “I have boundaries and I stand by those boundaries and that’s all.” Other women on the carpet “who didn’t look quite like me” were neither insulted nor pushed.

There was also discussion about the comeback of Shia LaBeouf (37), who did not want to miss the premiere of his new film “Megalopolis”. After serious accusations from his ex-girlfriend, the actor had avoided the public. In Cannes, the scandal star appeared unusually elegant in a tuxedo.

Heidi Klum outshone all

Heidi Klum (50) traveled to the Croisette twice. At the opening, she attracted attention in a voluminous red dress. She was introduced in Cannes as the new L’Oréal brand ambassador. She then returned to the amfAR gala with her daughter Leni Klum (20) at her side. The “Germany’s Next Top Model” host wore a dream made of tulle, the young model wore a black net dress.
