While the new range ofiPhone 15 has just been launched, rumors are continuing regarding its successor, the iPhone 16. According to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is considering equipping all devices in the range with the A18 chip, which would mark a real change in model for society.

For several years, the Cupertino company has mainly distinguished the different iPhones from its basic and Pro ranges by the chip that equips them. Latest example: if the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are equipped with the A16 Bionic processor already present in the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max from last year, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max benefit from the the company’s latest chip, the A17 Pro, which is based on high-performance 3 nanometer engraving.

TSMC’s N3E process for all iPhone 16s

Jeff Pu says this practice should change next year. The Apple brand plans to equip all iPhone 16s, entry-level models included, with the A18 chip. Manufactured by the Taiwanese giant TSMC, the latter will exploit the company’s second generation 3 nanometer manufacturing process, N3E. The A17 Pro is based on the N3B process.

The move to N3E should enable better yields, in addition to improving computing performance while being more energy efficient. Concretely, the iPhone 16 would benefit from a significant increase in performance compared to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, in addition to increased battery capacities.

In order to separate its different models, Apple would still consider a different chip for each of them. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus would feature the A18 Bionic processor, while the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Max would use an A18 Pro chip.

Rumors about the iPhone 16 are rife

In addition to this change in policy relating to processors, the iPhone 16 should also introduce a new range with an even more advanced model called Ultra, just like the Apple Watch. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max should benefit from even larger screens than their predecessors.

For now, it should be noted that Apple could still choose to change its strategy in order to best adapt to market conditions.
