"Forbidden Love" was discontinued after 20 years and six months. The first episode flickered on TV screens in January 1995. The last episode aired on June 26, 2015. "The waning audience response" was the reason for the series end, according to ARD. At the end of the 1990s, the former Daily captivated an average of almost three million viewers. Most recently, it was Weekly – the switch to weekly broadcasting was carried out in February 2015 – an average of only 1.0 million viewers.
