Ford finally launches its Tesla Cybertruck competitor in Europe

If Ford had announced in March 2023 the arrival of the F-150 Lightning in Europe, no more news had filtered out on the arrival of this huge electric pickup here. Until today, when the first European example of this typically American electric car was delivered to Norway.

If Ford markets only one electric car in Europe, the Mustang Mach-E, it is not the same in the rest of the world. The American brand is therefore marketing in the United States and Canada a 100% electric version of its legendary pick-up, the F-150 Lightning.

If Ford had indicated in March 2023 the arrival of this electric F-150 (which we have already tested) in Norway, we had been treated to superb radio silence since… until an announcement from the general manager of Ford Norway, who published the photos of the first delivery on X (formerly Twitter).

Customers right on target

This dear Per Gunnar Berg gives us some details about the family who received this first copy. And we can say that they are on target, since they are a Texan family, which runs an American barbecue restaurant and whose two sons already exceed two meters in height. It could hardly be more typical.

The opportunity to recall this enormous pick-up, competitor to the Tesla Cybertruck. The Norwegian versions have the “small” 98 kWh battery (another 131 kWh is available in the USA), capable of ensuring a range of 429 km according to the WLTP cycle. A 150 kW charger provides fast charging from 15 to 80% in 39 minutes.

The dimensions ? In connection with the children of the family, since this electric F-150 measures 5.91 meters long and 2.03 meters wide, for an elephantine weight of 2.8 tonnes empty!

We find the rest of the characteristics of this Lightning version, including this enormous front trunk (the famous “frunk”) of 400 liters and the V2L function to power electric tools via the traction battery, with a maximum power of 2.3 kW.

The price ? 1,186,000 crowns, or approximately 104,300 euros. Not cheap, but the only finish offered is fully equipped, with all possible and imaginable refinements.

What’s next?

That Ford begins marketing the F-150 Lightning in Norway is quite logical: more than 80% of cars sold in 2023 were 100% electric, and the dimensions of the country make it quite compatible with the dimensions and state of spirit of this enormous pick-up.

Will we see this electric F-150 elsewhere in Europe? We know that Switzerland should be entitled to it, but without indication of a precise date. Nothing announced for France.

This does not mean that Ford is not planning anything for our beautiful country. In 2024 alone, we should receive three new models: the e-Tourneo Courier, rival of the electric Renault Kangoo, the Explorer, built on the Volkswagen ID.4 platform, and finally the small Puma, which will arrive in version 100 % electric, named Gen-E.

A good way to increase sales figures and raise its head in the electric sector, an area where Ford is currently looking gloomy, with very significant losses for each car sold.
