Ford: Foundation stone laid for ‘BlueOval City’ project

(CercleFinance.com) – Ford announced on Friday that it had laid the first stone of its ‘BlueOval City’ plant, in Tennessee, a project that the second American automaker considers to be the most ambitious in its history.

Less than a year after the formalization of the investment decision, the metal frames of the building were installed following the completion of the earthworks, which resulted in the laying of some 370,000 tons of stone, a volume equivalent to 1600 Statues of Liberty.

This ‘advanced’ campus, which should extend over more than 15 km2, should make it possible to create 6,000 new jobs when production starts in 2025.

The plant, which is the subject of an investment of 5.6 billion dollars (about 4.8 billion euros) shared with South Korea’s SK, will produce the next generation of F-Series electric pick-ups as well as batteries for future Ford and Lincoln models.

The project should help the manufacturer reach its goal of an annual production of two million electric vehicles per year by the end of 2026.
