Mercedes’ premium electric SUV, the EQC, was the German automaker’s first dab into the world of hip Sport Utility Vehicles. It’s time to pit it against Ford’s newcomer, the Mustang Mach-E SUV. Which of these two vehicles is for you?
With a growing electric market, SUVs are becoming more and more numerous, and a potential buyer may find it difficult to navigate. We have therefore decided to let you know which electric car suits you the most by regularly putting them face to face.
Today, it’s the turn of the Mercedes EQC to take on the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The German brand’s first electric SUV has serious advantages, including an excellent interior and high-end comfort, but the more unique side of the Mustang Mach-E as well as its performance make it an excellent vehicle as well.
We will therefore examine in detail the differences between these two SUVs, so as to help you make your choice.

Dimensions, weight and exterior design
The Ford Mustang Mach-E sports the famous horse logo dear to the Mustang heritage, a sacrilege for some purists. Still, the exterior design of this SUV is quite successful: sporty lines, easily recognizable light signature, the emphasis is generally on the sporty side, and it is very appreciable.
It is a very different copy that Mercedes delivers to us with its EQC, which has decided to remain in line with the group’s SUVs. No originality on the outside which takes up all the codes of its thermal cousin, the GLC.
At 4.77 meters wide, 1.88 meters long and 1.62 meters high, and weighing 2,495 kilograms, the EQC is anything but a small car. Opposite, the Mustang Mach-E has a length of 4.71 meters, for a width and height similar to the EQC. On the scale, depending on the version, the displayed weight will be between 1,969 and 2,273 kilograms for the American.
Inside
We find on board the Ford Mustang Mach-E a new interior, with a portrait format screen in the center of the dashboard, which includes a notched wheel to adjust the sound volume or the temperature.
A front trunk of 81 liters is present under the hood, and the rear trunk has a capacity of 402 liters. With its 500 liter trunk at the rear (no front trunk), the Mercedes EQC offers generous space for storing luggage and this generosity is also found in the space on board.
The pride of place is indeed given to the rear and front passengers, who will benefit from enveloping seats, in imitation leather or animal leather, but you will have to select the optional pack at 4,500 euros to have driver and passenger seats with electrical adjustment with function memory. Mercedes is definitely not one meanness on its EQC.
Embedded technologies
Ford has upgraded the technology package in its Mustang Mach-E, to the delight of its future owners. The famous “smartphone as key” function, allowing you to substitute your smartphone’s Bluetooth for a physical key, is notably part of the game, which is extremely practical on a daily basis.
Android Auto and Apple Carplay are included, as is a 360-degree view, and even heated and ventilated front seats. At Mercedes, the manufacturer’s classic dual screen is present, with a generally up-to-date infotainment system.
We will particularly appreciate a display of navigation in augmented reality, very practical for easily visualizing where we have to go.
On the road
The Mercedes EQC is more of a comfortable vehicle than a dynamic one. If the performances remain quite honorable, with a 0 to 100 km / h shot in 5.1 seconds, the laws of physics apply to this monster of 2.5 tonnes empty.
Thus, its cathedral silence and its exceptional comfort when driving like a good father and mother will be assets on which it will be necessary to rely much more than on its ability to take tight turns at high speed.
On the other side, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is much more playful on secondary roads in particular, where the millimeter management of the direction and its exceptional handling will be appreciated.
The few hundred kilograms lighter allow the Mustang Mach-E to be more agile in all circumstances, even if it means sacrificing a little comfort.
The different engines offered
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is available in three different versions:
- Mach-E: rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, top speed 180 km/h;
- AWD: front and rear engine, all-wheel drive, 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, top speed 180 km/h;
- GT: front and rear engine, all-wheel drive, 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, top speed 200 km/h.
Only one variant of the Mercedes EQC is offered in the catalog of the German manufacturer:
- EQC 400 4MATIC: front and rear engine, all-wheel drive, 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, top speed 180 km/h.

Autonomy, battery and charging
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered with either a 76 kWh or 99 kWh battery. Thus, the range in the WLTP cycle is between 400 and 610 kilometers depending on the version. Fast charging increases to a power of 150 kW for 99 kWh batteries, and is limited to 115 kW for 76 kWh batteries. In slow charge, count at best 8 hours to fill the Mustang Mach-E with its 11 kW on-board charger.
The Mercedes EQC is almost on a par with the Mustang Mach-E models equipped with the 76 kWh battery. Indeed, it takes 40 minutes in ideal conditions to reach 80% battery with the EQC in fast charge, which climbs to 110 kW peak.
The 11 kW on-board charger can fully fill the 80 kWh battery that equips the EQC in 7.5 hours. The WLTP autonomy is announced by the manufacturer at 437 kilometers in the combined cycle.
Price
It will be difficult in this section to find an advantage to the EQC. Indeed, with a starting price displayed at 81,800 euros, only very high-end customers will be able to consider the Mercedes vehicle. 6,900 euros of options can be added, bringing the total price to 88,700 euros. Of course, no ecological bonus for this kind of price is on the menu.
On the Ford side, while the top-of-the-range models reach 80,250 euros (GT, Extended Range AWD, with optional paint), the entry-level starts at 50,450 euros and is thus eligible for the ecological bonus. of 2,000 euros. It will therefore be appropriate to compare only the most expensive model with the EQC400 as the difference with the other versions is significant.
Which to choose between the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Mercedes EQC?
At the end of this comparison, one of the decisive factors will certainly be the price. Those for whom an 80,000 euro or more vehicle is out of the question won’t see the EQC in their sights, while the Mustang Mach-e will be more accessible, available from 30,000 euros less.
But for those who were hesitating between the most high-end version from Ford and the Mercedes EQC, it remains to compare the performance. The latter are in favor of the Mustang Mach-E, so the quality of the cabin and the comfort go to the German. It remains to be seen whether the originality of the Mustang will prevail for you over the much more banal aspect of the EQC.
