mustang mach e vs skoda eniaq iv

The parent company of Skoda, the Volkswagen group, uses and abuses its MEB platform to decline the famous Volkswagen ID.4 as much as possible. Thus was born the Skoda Enyaq iV, which we decided to confront with a Ford model, the Mustang Mach-E.

Although Mustang in name only, Ford’s proposition in the world of electric SUVs is remarkable and noticed. We will therefore examine without further ado the similarities and differences of its two electric cars to determine which one will be made for you.

Dimensions, weight and exterior design

Proudly stamped with the legendary horse marking its heritage, the Mustang Mach-E offers a worked design, with a fairly aggressive front and a rear more reminiscent of a coupe than an SUV. The dimensions are relatively generous, with a length of 4.71 meters, a width of 1.88 meters and a height of 1.62 meters.

On the scale, the different versions of the Mustang Mach-E oscillate its weight between 1,969 and 2,273 kilograms, while the Skoda Enyaq iV displays a weight between 1,865 and 2,233 kilograms. The exterior dimensions of the Enyaq iV are more or less the same as the Mustang Mach-E, with a length of 4.65 meters, a width of 1.88 meters and a height of 1.62 meters.

Aerodynamics have been well done on the Enyaq iV, which has a drag coefficient of 0.26, which is respectable for an SUV. The front end is fairly typical of a Skoda, and the sharp lines dotted all around the body show that the design has been thought through.

Inside

Don’t imagine finding a classic Ford Mustang interior on board the Mach-E, which is entitled to a brand new layout of the dashboard, which is quite successful. A large screen in portrait format, equipped with a physical button controlling the volume or the temperature of the cabin, sits in the center of the front of the vehicle. Its ergonomics are generally successful.

The central console is very imposing, which can tend to bother the large jigs at the front. In terms of available storage, count on a small front trunk of 81 liters and a loading capacity of 402 liters at the rear. If there is no front trunk on the Skoda Enyaq iV, the 585 liters offered by the rear trunk will delight those who wish to have space to carry the luggage of a whole family.

The materials used inside the Skoda Enyaq iV exude quality, with wide and enveloping seats that will delight those fond of comfort.

Embedded technologies

It would be easier to list what is not available on board the Mustang Mach-E as Ford wanted to equip it with all the best in terms of on-board technologies. The key on the smartphone is available, the front seats are heated and ventilated, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are obviously present. A screen behind the steering wheel summarizes essential information for the driver (battery level, range, etc.)

The two panels of the Skoda Enyaq iV are laid out in a more conventional way, with a small screen behind the steering wheel and a larger 13-inch landscape format placed in the center of the dashboard. Android Auto and Apple Carplay are available, so the interface made a good impression on us during our test in real conditions.

Four USB-C ports invite passengers to charge their devices. Induction charging is available for front passengers. Finally, on some versions, a head-up display is added at the bottom of the windscreen, so that the driver can easily see the navigation information without looking away from the road.

On the road

The horse applied to the front as to the rear of the Mustang Mach-E is a reminder of the brand’s power: when you press the accelerator, you are truly on board a Mustang. The vehicle will reveal its full potential on the secondary network, where impeccable handling and steering response are highly valued.

Ford Mustang Mach-E vs Skoda Enyaq iV: which is the better electric car?

The atmosphere is different on board the Skoda Enyaq iV which will favor a quieter ride, especially on the versions developing only 204 horsepower, for a vehicle weighing more than two tonnes. As a good family SUV, the Enyaq iV will delight passengers with honorable comfort during long journeys and very well-adjusted suspensions swallowing the roughness of the road without any difficulty.

The different engines offered

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is available in three different versions:

  • Mach-E: rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, top speed 180 km/h;
  • AWD: front and rear engine, all-wheel drive, 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, top speed 180 km/h;
  • GT: front and rear engine, all-wheel drive, 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, top speed 200 km/h.

Ford Mustang Mach-E vs Skoda Enyaq iV: which is the better electric car?

The Skoda Enyaq iV is offered in four different engines:

  • Version 50, propulsion with 52 kWh battery: 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds, maximum speed of 160 km/h;
  • Version 60 and Sportline 60propulsion with 58 kWh battery: 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, maximum speed of 160 km/h;
  • Version 80 and Sportline 80propulsion with 77 kWh battery: 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds, maximum speed of 160 km/h;
  • 80X and Sportline 80X version, all-wheel drive with 77 kWh battery: 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, top speed 160 km/h.

Autonomy, battery and charging

With two different batteries available, one of 76 kWh and the other of 99 kWh, the Mustang Mach-E offers ranges in the WLTP cycle of between 400 and 610 kilometers. In direct current, the fast charge reaches 150 kW for the versions equipped with the large battery, and the others will be limited to a power of only 11 kW. It will therefore take between 38 and 45 minutes to reach 80% battery under ideal conditions.

At home, a household socket will allow you to fill the battery in about thirty hours for the 99 kWh version, and around 26 hours for the 76 kWh version. If you have an 11 kW Wallbox, you will be able to complete a full tank in less than 10 hours, however.

On the other side, the Skoda Enyaq iV comes in three different battery pack variants: 52, 58 or 77 kWh. Thus, the ranges in the WLTP cycle are between 362 and 539 kilometers depending on the configuration.

On models with the larger battery, fast charging up to 125kW will be enabled, ensuring you get to 80% in less than 40 minutes. Count around 7:30 a.m. to fully recharge the batteries at an 11 kW alternating current charging station, and between 20 and 30 hours at a household outlet.

Price

With prices ranging from 36,720 euros (Version 50) to 53,730 euros (Sportline 80X), the two vehicles in this comparison do not play entirely in the same court. Indeed, the most expensive of the Enyaq iV in basic configuration barely exceeds the starting price of the Mustang Mach-E, which starts at 50,450 euros.

Even playing with the options, the Skoda reaches only 65,000 euros, against more than 80,000 euros for the Mustang Mach-E in GT version.

Which to choose between the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Skoda Enyaq iV?

Let it be said, with a starting price of 36,720 euros attributed to the Enyaq iV, many will probably not consider the Mustang Mach-E, even basic, so much the surplus to pay is substantial. However, if the higher-end versions of the Enyaq iV appeal to you, then the entry-level Mustang Mach-E is worth a look.

With a 76 kWh battery and a range of 440 kilometers, Ford’s proposal is acceptable for anyone looking for an electric SUV capable of being the main vehicle in the household. However, the larger trunk of the Enyaq iV and its comfort for passengers will perhaps be right for the power and the more playful side of the Mach-E.
