Ford recalls 519,000 SUVs due to engine fire risk

Nov 24 (Reuters) – Ford Motor on Thursday announced the recall of 519,000 SUVs in the United States due to a risk of fire in the engine block and advised owners to have their vehicles inspected.

The second-largest US automaker said the recall affects 2020-2023 Bronco Sport and Escape models with 1.5-litre three-cylinder engines, many of which were already recalled in April for the same issue.

Once the repairs are completed, the manufacturer will update the software of the vehicles concerned so that it can detect any anomaly in the injection system.

“If a pressure drop in the fuel rail is detected, engine power will automatically be reduced to minimize any risk, while allowing customers to drive to a safe location, stop the vehicle and take arrangements to fix it,” Ford said.

The manufacturer declares to have been informed of 54 incidents related to the fire problem. (Report David Shepardson, French version Lina Golovnya, edited by Sophie Louet)
