Ford: towards a reduction in production of the F-150 Lightning

(CercleFinance.com) – Ford announced on Friday that it was planning a reduction in production of the electric version of its flagship pickup in the United States, the F-150 Lightning, due to the slowdown in demand.

The American automobile manufacturer indicates that the assembly of the electric pick-up will only mobilize a single team from April in order to better align production with the current state of demand.

The group emphasizes that approximately 1,400 employees at its Rouge site will be affected by this decision, of which 700 will be transferred to the Michigan plant, the others having to either assume other functions in Rouge or in the rest of the state. or take advantage of the recently implemented voluntary departure program.

Ford, which saw sales of the F-150 Lightning climb 55 percent last year, says it expects less growth than expected in electric vehicle sales this year.

It nevertheless plans to create 900 new jobs with the addition of a third line at its Michigan site in order to increase production of the Bronco and Bronco Raptor thermal SUVs and the new Ranger and Ranger Raptor pickups.

Listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Ford shares fell 0.4% on Friday morning following these announcements.
