Erwin Rüddel, chairman of the health committee, would like more normality for autumn. This also includes a certain risk. In his opinion, masks will continue to be part of everyday life – and will continue to do so in a few years.

In five years’ time, masks to protect against corona will still be worn in Germany – at least that’s how CDU health politician Erwin Rüddel sees it. “I think the mask will still help shape our lives in five years’ time,” said the chairman of the health committee in the Bundestag on Deutschlandfunk. He hoped, however, more on the common sense of the individual than on binding guidelines.

Overall, Rüddel spoke out in favor of opening up social life in this country more in view of the relatively high vaccination rate and of having the courage “that we will come back to significantly more normality in autumn”. The MP with the Neuwied constituency in Rhineland-Palatinate said: “We have been in a state of emergency for almost two years and have to learn to become normal again.” There is a certain risk in life, he said with a view to the corona pandemic.

Rüddel said he had no problem with having to pay for corona tests himself from October. That is fair “because everyone got their chance to be vaccinated”. Regarding the procedure of the Bundesliga soccer club 1. FC Köln, which from the end of August only wants to allow vaccinated or recovered spectators into its stadium, Rüddel said that this was justifiable and covered by the club’s private domiciliary rights. Politicians should stay out of this point.
