JJ Wolf has not yet torn any big ropes on the ATP tour. In Miami he beat an unbelievable winner.
Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 5) prepared the point wonderfully towards the end of the 2nd set against JJ Wolf: The Greek rushed the 23-year-old American from corner to corner and then stormed the net with a backhand ball. Wolf, a qualifier ranked 167th, sprinted towards the ball and lunged for the object of play with a large lunge.
But instead of somehow getting the felt ball into the field with his two-handed backhand, Wolf hit the ball as a right-hander with his left along the line past Tsitsipas with millimeter precision. The spectators – and probably also the two players on the court – could not believe their eyes.
Despite his hit of the year, Wolf was eliminated 4: 6, 7: 6 (7: 5), 1: 6 at the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami. However, his “winner with the wrong hand” should find its way into many a season review.
