The European Union is currently expecting no progress during talks with Iran about reviving the 2015 nuclear agreement. “It’s a shame because we had come very, very close,” said EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell in Luxembourg before the start of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting. Consultations with Iran have stalled in recent weeks, he added.

In the summer, the EU submitted a proposal to save the agreement. It is intended to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. That was negotiated Nuclear deal 2015 from the USA, China, Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain and Iran.

In 2018, however, the then US President had donald trump unilaterally terminated the agreement and reinstated US sanctions against Iran.

As a result, Iran, for its part, began violating its obligations under the agreement, as announced, which makes the revival of the agreement more difficult.

The government in Tehran has always denied striving for nuclear weapons and has declared that it only wants to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
