Forget The Witcher 4, this ambitious game could crush everything

The next Witcher games are clearly not happening right away, and some are therefore turning their eyes to other RPGs that could also have huge potential.

We were able to tell you about it right here on Gameblog: in early 2022, a development studio called Rebel Wolves, founded by ex-CD Projekt Red developers, was created. Drawing on its experience acquired on games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, this studio is working on creating a dark fantasy RPG in a vast open world. Today we have the opportunity to learn more about it. What do we know?

Why forget The Witcher?

According to investigations carried out by Kurakasis on Twitter, known for his ability to unearth new information on video games, it seems that Rebel Wolves’ first project is called Dawnwalker: Origins. This RPG, anchored in a dark fantasy universe, would be developed on Unreal Engine 5. Domain name registrations and trademark filings made it possible to discover this potential title for the game.

But that’s not all. In a job posting unearthed by Kurakasis, it is mentioned that Dawnwalker would be an open world game. While not as expansive as The Witcher 3, the game promises to feature more quests. Among the information revealed, we note that:

  • The game is now in Alpha phase.
  • It will not feature microtransactions.
  • A team of 100 people is working on the project.
  • There will be no platform-exclusive items or quests.

Unfortunately, to date, no additional information has been provided regarding the reveal or release date of Dawnwalker. Details remain speculative, but the lack of microtransactions and platform exclusives are points of interest to the community. The same goes for the presence of an open world.

What to expect ?

Developed on Unreal Engine 5, Dawnwalker: Origins could feature impressive graphics and advanced game physics. We know the capabilities of the graphics engine, which allows us to envisage a truly next-gen RPG, like what The Witcher 3 represented in its time. Furthermore, it can be assumed that the experience gained on The Witcher 3 will have a very positive impact on the RPG design at Rebel Wolves. The importance of feedback in the field of video games is well known. While this doesn’t necessarily guarantee consistent success, it helps in understanding best practices to adopt and mistakes to avoid. In this vein, the tumultuous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 could have served as a lesson to CD Projekt veterans, particularly on key points like optimization.
