Former Brazilian footballer Pelé hospitalized again

SAO PAULO, Jan 20 (Reuters) – Former Brazilian footballer Pele is in hospital again for treatment related to the removal of a colon tumor last year, his agent told Reuters on Thursday.

ESPN TV channel previously reported that 81-year-old Pele was admitted to Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo for chemotherapy sessions.

According to ESPN, examinations had previously made it possible to diagnose a tumor in the intestine, another in the liver and the beginning of a third in a lung, and new examinations were necessary to look for other cancerous foci.

The channel added that Pelé was in a stable condition and could be discharged from hospital during the day.

The hospital’s press service said it had no information about Pele’s hospitalization.

Last September, the three-time football world champion underwent surgery to remove a colon tumor and he remained hospitalized for almost a month.

He had been admitted to hospital again last month for chemotherapy sessions.
