Former Northern Irish PM David Trimble dies aged 77


LONDON, July 25 (Reuters) – Former Northern Irish Prime Minister David Trimble, who won the 1998 Nobel Peace Prize, has died aged 77, his family said on Monday.

“It is with great sadness that the family of Lord Trimble announce his passing after a short illness,” read a statement issued by the Ulster Unionist Party.

David Trimble and John Hume, then a member of the Social Democratic and Labor Party, were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998 for their participation in the development of the peace agreement in Northern Ireland, known as “Good Friday”. . (Report Andy Bruce; French version Camille Raynaud)
