Lawrence Stroll, 62, is a car fanatic through and through. The owner of the Aston Martin racing team has a car collection that is said to be worth over 170 million Swiss francs. His best piece: the Ferrari 250 GTO, the most expensive car in the world.
The speedster is currently expected to cost around 60 million francs. Anyway, the 62-year-old has a great passion for the Italian sports car brand. In 2013 he bought a 1967 Ferrari GTB for just under 25 million francs. A relatively cheap price if you look at his wealth, which “Forbes” estimates at around 2.8 billion Swiss francs.
Stroll’s dream of Formula 1
Stroll invested in the fashion companies Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors, from which he gained a large part of his wealth. In 2018, the Canadian then fulfilled his Formula 1 dream: As head of the Racing Point investor group, he bought the Force India racing team, which had to file for bankruptcy during that season.
In this way, Stroll made new financial resources available. The racing team was able to continue under the name Racing Point Force India, in 2019 it was only called Racing Point. At the time, Sergio Perez (31, now Red Bull) and his son Lance Stroll (23, three F1 podium places) sat in the cockpit.
In December 2020 in Bahrain, Perez ensured the only Grand Prix victory that Stroll as the owner of the racing team has so far been able to experience. However, the Mexican was fired at the end of the season because the four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel (34) was already established as his successor for the 2021 season. With a bit of luck, Perez found shelter at Red Bull.
Loss on luxury yacht
Also in 2020, the 62-year-old was part of another consortium that bought a 16.7 percent stake in Aston Martin. Shortly afterwards, it was announced that Racing Point would therefore start under the name of the British car brand from the 2021 season. In the current season, the team based in Silverstone, UK, is seventh in the Constructors’ Championship.
In addition to his luxury cars, Stroll also owned a yacht worth around CHF 250 million including a swimming pool, gym and cinema. He welcomed numerous prominent guests, including the acting couple Michael Douglas (77) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (52).
In the meantime, however, he has sold it to Michael Latifi (59), father of Williams driver Nicholas Latifi (26). A new yacht is already under construction in Holland. But this will be “only” 80 meters long, almost 20 meters shorter than his previous luxury boat. (che)
