The Alfa Romeo ended up on the roof and then in the fence after a spectacular accident. Transported to the medical center, the Chinese pilot is conscious and does not suffer from any fracture.
After a first spectacular accident in Formula 2 at the start of the day, the Silverstone circuit was the scene of a 2e Huge crash at the start of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. Hit at full speed by George Russell’s Mercedes – itself hit beforehand by Pierre Gasly’s Alpha Tauri – when the lights went out, the Guanyu Zhou’s Alfa Romeo turned around before heading into the gravel trap. Under the effect of the speed, the single-seater was propelled over the wall of tires before being stopped by the fence.
After long minutes, the Chinese pilot was able to be extracted and transported to the medical center. His team and Formula 1 said he was fine and did not suffer from any broken bones. As with the crashes of Romain Grosjean in 2020 and Lewis Hamilton last year, the Halo arguably played a crucial role in allowing Zhou to pull through without major damage.
